Adina Porter talks ‘The 100 season 2, ‘True Blood’ and ‘Newsroom’
The CW’s hit show The 100 is rolling along through a second season and actress Adina Porter talked with us about her role as Indra, a warrior discovered by the group, a leader of this Grounder group.
Adina begins by talking about the audition process, not feeling it was her best performance, but how she’s excited to play Indra.
“I wrapped The Newsroom on Tuesday and was on a plane (to Vancouver)on Wednesday for The 100,” she explained.
“I love the fact that we’re a tribe of people that do not have a problem having a women being a warrior, so it isn’t always brute force that you get people to do what you say,” she says, noting how Indra will use “mind games” or “nurturing” as Indra is great at manipulating people.
Adina then talks about the stunts and action on the show, “They have an amazing stunt coordinator,” she says, explaining how they email you the scene, how you practice while battling your “ego” to do as much as possible.
She notes that Marie Avgeropoulos does all of her own stunts as Octavia – “She’s a badass.”
Porter is well known for her roles on two of HBO’s popular shows: True Blood and The Newsroom – on True Blood. “When you feel safe on set…when you feel like everyone is supporting you, when it’s the other cast members as well as the crew (noting that “90% of the crew was there for all seven years”)…you can get ugly, you can get naked, emotionally and physcially, because you know you are in a safe environment.”
Porter played Letite Mae Daniels, mother of Tara Mae Thornton (played by Rutina Wesley) and praises Alan Ball, HBO and says she is “still surprised at how big True Blood is…”
Adina which scenes Adina has watched, and most surprising, which she has not – fans may be surprised by this story.
Even more interesting, Adina reveals that watching a show she’s in is not going to be “relaxing,” a great way of conveying the obstacle of “watching yourself.”
Next, she the details about The Newsroom set, challenges of filming with all of the “reflections everywhere,” nicknamed the set “the glass room” and you can’t be caught mouthing “rubarb, rubarb, rubarb….”
Of course, the ending of The Newsroom, the fate of Charlie (Sam Waterston) is a truly emotional and remarkable tale that Adina explains beautifully.
