Michael Anderson, Building 429, talks Winter Jam, ‘Where I Belong’ and ‘Inception’

building_429_photo_2013The Winter Jam tour is in full swing across the west coast, playing in Oregon and California this weekend. Michael Anderson from Building 429 took time out to talk about the tour and other topics with The Global Dispatch.

“This is really awesome,” Anderson began as he described what it was like to be on the tour. “Winter Jam 2012 was our first time, so now it’s like family.”

Anderson, and his bandmates in Building 429, are with ten other artists touring cities across the west coast, stopping in Oregon where it’s “forty degrees, windy and rainy – pretty normal for Portland,” Anderson said.

Winter Jam packs arenas with soldout shows and even Building 429 has to take note of the massive crowd.

“You have to cater to the show to make it fit,” the drummer says explaining the difference between playing for a couple of thousands versus the huge crowd at the arenas.

The bands build strong and lasting friendships and join together on Sundays for “Jam Church.”

“The artists all come together for Jam Church and a different artist leads worship each weekend. David Crowder did the last one and it was really cool.”

WinterJam 2013Anderson, like the fans, appear to find their hit song Where I Belong to be hit favorite (to play) noting that “The hands go up, everyone is singing every word. Sometimes Jason (Roy) doesn’t even sing…we just worship together. It’s always a special moment in our set.”

Not an addict to technology, Anderson says he enjoys the “silence” in his downtime, but recently downloaded the new Image Dragons album and is still enjoying the new album from Newsboys. Back home in North Carolina he says he enjoys the beach, surfing and is recently take up offshore and inshore fishing.

Lastly, bandmember Jesse Garcia notoriously drove the group a little crazy during 2012 with his “addiction to (the film) Inception.

“I think it’s finally over. It would be on Direct TV (on the bus) or he’d put in the DVD…every night. I’ve probably seen that 30-40 times because he thought it was the “coolest movie ever.”
