Newsong’s Billy Goodwin talks Winter Jam sellouts and the new album
Winter Jam is selling out town after town on the three month, forty show tour across America. Billy Goodwin, one of the founders of NewSong, talked briefly with The Global Dispatch about the success of the tour and some upcoming news.
“Most venue are selling out and we are setting up a stage outside for acoustic sets. It’s a mixed blessing,” Goodwin explains. “We hate to turn anyone away, so this is a way for us to show we love them.”
TobyMac, Red, Matthew West, Sidewalk Prophets, Jamie Grace, Royal Tailor, Capital Kings, Jason Castro, NewSong and OBB make for a full lineup of amazing Christian music and folks are packing every show.
“Venues are filling up, but we never know because we don’t sell tickets,” Goodwin notes that weather permitting artists can go outside to a makeshift area to greet with fans that couldn’t get inside for the general admission show. “Some venues have a convention style area and we have setup two to three thousand for an inside state.”
“It’s cool about the tour, it becomes like family as we fellowship together with the artists and there’s a unity and focus. (There are) no ego problems as folks are using their God given talents and we are united to share that, rejoice in God’s work.”
The Jamtour continues through March and the NewSong singer gives up an updated schedule.
“There is a small Spring tour, probably going to mid-April when the new album comes out. It’s called ‘Swallow the Ocean” and that will take us to the end of the summer. We do a Christmas tour and the west coast JamTour. It’s a pretty cool time.”
